Navy Is 2-2

That’s because they didn’t really beat Air Force last week, according to Falcon cornerback Carson Bird:

“We realized Navy didn’t really beat us, and that was huge for us to realize,” senior cornerback Carson Bird said. “They really didn’t beat us. We beat ourselves.”

Same old Air Force. Fisher would be proud.

Look, I know that when coaches show players film of the last game, those players come out of there knowing that their mistakes are correctable. I get that. I would expect players and coaches to come out after a loss and focus on the mistakes they made and how they’re going to fix them. Nobody needs to be kissing their opponent’s collective butt after a loss.

But that is a far cry from what Bird said. How hard is it to say that the team made mistakes, and just leave it at that? He didn’t just say that Navy didn’t beat them, he repeated it for emphasis! Maybe Jake Schaller will remember things like this the next time he wants to write about how tired he thinks Navy’s “respect” routine is. Paul Johnson doesn’t make this stuff up. It happens every year. Apparently Navy hasn’t been good enough to beat Air Force for 5 straight years. They’ve just been the beneficiaries of Air Force repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot. This is the sort of thing that Johnson is talking about when he says that Navy must be the “luckiest team in America.”

So I guess Air Force is 4-2. No word yet on whether their victory over themselves will count as a conference win.

Dust gets thick after 5 years

    are we 2-2 or 2-3?

for that matter, are we really 1-4 since Duke threw that int that allowed us to get the FG?

but then that would mean we might actually be 2-3 again since it was our mistakes that lost the game to Ball State

then again, we could be 3-2 if we hadn’t thrown 2 picks in the red zone against rutgers…might have been game changing

i think we can find a 3-2 record in there some where

Air Force beat themselves, but they still didn’t beat Navy. But we didn’t beat them either I guess, so that game is just a wash for us. It’s very remarkable that Air Force can be 1-1 by playing a single game. But that’s just how damn friggin’ amazing Air Force is!

This is just a guess, but I would bet that after their TCU game, Carson Bird didn’t say, “We realize we really didn’t beat TCU. We really didn’t beat them. They beat themselves.”

It’s pure USAF culture to rationalize their own poor performance.

Every Officer Performance Report is written without acknowledgement of actual performance or ranking among peers.

That’s the same mentality that leads an entire service to think they can win wars through airpower alone.

They’re trained from the beginning to believe their own B.S.

Lets forget the Rutgers game as a win- shot or no shot they were still better than us.
Though we easily could play the AF/TCU mantra that we beat ourselves-they didnt beat us.
But Ball State flat out should have been a win and we should be going into Pitt with a 4-1 record.
Thats pretty impressive based on how bad the D has been.
The scary thought is what games do we win now?
    Delaware?-ND (yeah right) ??N Texas?-N Illinois?-Army?
I think if Pitt plows over us we will be lucky to win those 6 games to get to a Bowl.
If it comes down to Army having to be the 6th win -is there any Navy fan out there that so confident to say-thats no problem?
I would say this years game is a real toss up and Army would love nothing more than to be the team to keep us fron the win that gets us a Bowl game.
So we better hope that is not what that game comes down to.
