  1. I have to admit that the last time we played at home in Dublin against the Fightin Irish (That a home game?) we had a real good team and I felyt if we had played them in the states we would have had a good chance to beat them.
But the fans are for ND and the day was wet and rainy and ruined the day for us.
Now I understand our San Diego and Hawaii connections but have to admit that game in Ireland makes no sense to me.
It may be a nice trip but thats a long way to travel for another guaranteed loss ( as if the Christians had a good chance against the Lions in the Colisseum).

Anyway do you have any idea when the game will be coming back to NJ?
I would say that it had to be one of the more lucrative sites they played at but again it is 85% ND fans.
That I do not get- Navy can get 30,000 but against ND they did not seem to travel that many and it was the biggest game as we entered in good ranking and I thought that year it would end the streak.
But thats better than 99.5% in Ireland.
I think the new Giants Stadium is due in 2010?
    So at best 2014?
Any chance for NJ for the Army game or is that now permanent residence in Philly / Baltimore ( I would think Army would want that as much as the Mids Baltimore.

  2. Playing one of our home games in Ireland is something that Notre Dame wanted in the contract, not Navy.

  3. More on the possible 2010 Maryland game.

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/college/football/bal-terps806,0,601606.story?coll=bal_tab03_layout

  4. Added Delaware game in 2011.

  5. How valid is the chatter that we are working with Florida State?
I do see the Jacksonville connection but it would be as much a home game (if its a so called neutral site)for us as vs ND in Dublin.
Maybe a game there and Baltimore ( that would sell out).

  6. We didn’t have any interest in playing Florida State, so nothing came of it.

  7. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-fsubeat2107aug21,0,4042509.story

Florida State still wants to play us.

  8. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=141#s=141&f=2455&t=446194

Someone here says that the 2011 Pitt game has been moved to 2013.

  9. PJ says we’re playing Georgia Tech sometime after 2009:

    http://www.macon.com/160/story/150388.html

  10. Maryland isn’t happening in 2010.

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/bal-terps1002,0,1695562.story

  11. OK, Now Maryland is back on in 2010.

  12. Two observations on the schedule posted above:
    1. 2009 opens in Hawaii. Isn’t there a reciprocal visit by the Warriors to our beloved shrine in Annapolis?
    2. The 2009 schedule features not one but two games against 1AA opponents (or whatever it is that we are now supposed to call them). For a number of reasons, I am never a big fan of playing any 1AA teams. First, expects us to beat them, since we’re 1A and they aren’t. But they are typically better than two or three 1A teams on our schedule (e.g., Duke, SMU, and Temple). You get less by beating a 1AA and it hurts more to lose to them. Second, 1AA’s play by different rules. Specifically, they can take and play 1A transfers immediately, so you often have 1AA teams loaded w/ guys who were playing for 1A teams during the previous season.
Back to my point: do we really need two of these on our schedule in 2009? Isn’t Northern Illinois, North Texas, Tulane, or some other 1A available?

  13. Gary:
Navy should never play the ND game in NJ again if it can be avoided. It’s better than 95% ND fans and most of those people are “subway alumni” with no connection whatsoever to ND. They’re flat-out obnoxious.
Having been to Navy-ND games in both Baltimore and NJ, I’d much rather see it in Baltimore. The ND fans who show up there have some class.

  14. Now that PJ is gone, I doubt we’ll still play Georgia Southern in 2009.

  15. 85er:
Ok let me get this straight (but I am sure Chet will get nice $ for doing it in say 2010) the 95% ND Fans were a concern?
What is the % in Baltimore as it sounds awfully pro ND there too (subway dont go to Baltimore too?).
The subway alumi were obnoxious? Its not like they were all subway alumni-many were flat out alumni(we tailgated with our ND graduate nephew and many of his classmates).
If by obnoxious you mean loud and supportive as opposed to typical Navy “opera” type fans that get upset when you stand up for anything other than “Anchors Aweigh” then I think its more a fan envy situation.
I am sure it was more an ESPN type situation than we Navy fans are used to but it was still fun.
You make it sound like everybody there was a “Soprano” with that stereotype?
But here is another fact-if Navy has 25 to 30,000 plus season holders- where are those people who should JUMP at a chance to see ND play only 3 hours away?
Come on- that day my friends and I (all Navy fans) were embarrased that there were no Navy fans there and as usual the Brigade carried any noise.
That year the game was a true “clash” and even then where were the reputed Navy traveling faithful?
The weather was perfect-it was a perfect event that should have received at least 25,000 or more Navy fans and the fact that we were overridden by ND fans was whos fault?
We sat about 20 rows up from ND bench and the fans were just fine-if anything typical “sorry about that again look” was seen.
I am sure we will be seeing the game there in 2010 when the new stadium opens and the Navy coffers will be filled with $ by the NJSE…..but if Navy fans dont show up-again whose fault is that?
BTW why was Philly taken out of the equation after all those years of games VS ND there?
I would think Philly would be fine too.

  16. Navy recruits headed to NAPS not on the “birddog” recruiting list include:Matt Brewer LB, Billy Coates LS, Jake Delvento K-P, Kenson Dera LB, John Kelley DL, Trey Reed SB, Nick Ryan OL, Kavon Seaton OB, Jordan Spriggs DB, Siu Tafuna DB, Kyle Widhalm OL, Will Wied LB. Source Annapolis Capital

  17. South Alabama wants to go I-A and wants to schedule Navy:

    http://www.al.com/sports/mobileregister/thicks.ssf?/base/sports/1203329749149620.xml&coll=3

  18. replace hawaii with The Ohio State University in 09, should also be on schedule in 10

  19. You sure you aren’t mixing up Navy with Army?

  20. nope, just not sure on the location and who OSU will replace in 10

  21. I sure hope we don’t bite off more than we can chew.

  22. Why didn’t Ohio State schedule Navy in 2010? Both teams have open dates. Was there a reason to wait until 2014?

  23. Added Baylor series

  24. There’s a new SMU series scheduled after the current 4-game series ends in 2011.

  25. Navy scheduled Rice in 2009 on Oct. 10th. According to your schedule it looks like it’s replacing Rutgers (which is odd) but then again they could just be reorganizing the schedule altogether.

  26. Sorry, here’s the link:

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/college/football/bal-navyfoot703,0,667240.story?track=rss

  27. After all the dissing by Rutgers Staff several years back and the low class fans in Piscataway over the last several years, one wouldn’t blame the Middies from cancelling the series altogether.Apologies for arrogance and ignorance do not cut it anymore, especially from those labelled the “Jersey Joke” by many of their followers and the media.

  28. If you go on navysports.com an the fball section and click the navy football media guide on the right side of the page, a guide in pdf format will come up. At the bottom of the page with this year’s schedule is the next 3 years’ schedules. Sorry I can’t post the link, my computer s pdf.

  29. Being both a Navy and South Alabama Alum, I can’t wait for for 2013! Already told my wife and kids that no mater where I am stationed (unless in the sandbox) We are heading to Annapolis for that one. Having given more money to South I may have to wear the Red, Blue and White though! Go Jags

  30. Wow- next year Wake is again the ‘homecoming softie”?
We have to schedule the absolute hardest homecoming games EVER?!!
Not that there is anything wrong with that for me as they are the most attractive home games to attend.
But there is something wrong at the end of the scoreboard though-we lose.
Lets hope for the breakthrough VS Pitt and thats gonna be a tough one this year-Pitt looks loaded.

  31. How come the 2009 season has 13 games?

  32. Because you can play 13 if one is at Hawaii.

  33. Shreveport Times is reporting Louisiana Tech and Navy have signed a home and home agreement. Navy will host Louisiana Tech in 2009, and Louisiana Tech will host navy in 2010. Not sure which game Louisiana Tech replaces on 2009 Schedule

    http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080821/SPORTS02/808210340

  34. According to the gameday program, your schedules for the next 3 years are correct except for the fact that they are scheduling a homecoming game in 2010 on Oct. 30 against a TBD opponent.

  35. well when “TBD” becomes an actual team, i’ll add them.

  36. The gameday program is printed early in the summer. They’ve since released that we’re playing Louisiana Tech in 2009 and 2010 but those games weren’t listed in the program.

  37. Why not reschedule a series with Ball State, last year’s game was close at home and this year showed that we had a chance if we could of done better in are execution in the red zone. A Home-Road series for the next 4 years would give us the chance to show that it’s not just a onesided series. Have them over LA Tech (push that game to 2012) on Sept 12, 2009, a week before they play Army, then in 2010 on Oct 9 (I know it would be a long time on the road, 4 games), 2011 replace the Delaware, and in 2012 play on Sept 8. Then after that time if we show that this series is they real deal then we have a true rival in the making. They set a record this year when we played them, though the fact that it was on ESPN might had to do something with that, but still it was a good game.

Ball State only has 3 contracted games each year until 2011 so they have room for 1 more. Plus, they play Army a total of 5 times thru 2014, more reason to prove that we are better than Army, than beating a team that they wouldn’t be able to, am I right or what.

  38. Why do you need to act like you’re a Navy fan? If you’re a Ball State fan who wants to play Navy, just say so.

  39. Ok, you got me, but come on it was two good games, and it’s true, if Navy would have TD’s instead of FG’s then they would of won, we had a hard time at stoping the option run, plus we threw 2 INT’s to your guys 1. Also, I have friend at Navy and this would give me the chance to see them at least once a year.

  40. I heard that Ole’ Miss wanted to play Navy, is that just rumor-mill stuff or is it going to become a reality?

  41. Looks like we need a lot more home games at NMCMS in 2010 – only one so far – SMU

  42. Navy will play at Iowa State

    http://myespn.go.com/blogs/others/0-1-324/Service-academies–UNLV-book-bouts-with-Iowa-State.html

  43. Wagner’s blog also has some more info on the Navy vs. Iowa State scheduling. The blog also says that between now and 2018, Syracuse, Mississippi, and Northwestern are on Navy’s schedule.

    http://www.hometownannapolis.com/blog_bwagner.html

  44. I’m a little sad, navyfreak. I posted about that a month ago!

    http://thebirddog.wordpress.com/2008/09/18/oh-by-the-way/

  45. I’m sorry…

  46. Why are all the games at 3:30 this year? Is that part of the new contract?
How have other fans with season tickets responded to this?

  47. CSTV wanted the chance to schedule tripleheaders this year, which means games at noon, 3:30, and 7. Chet was given the choice between noon and 3:30, and he chose the latter. I’d have preferred noon, but I do recall people complaining about noon starts in the past. That’s why the games were at 1:30 last year.

  48. Thanks Mike-
I recall feeling 12 was a bit early but liked it .
Are we now in for 3:30 for the rest of our CBS lives?

  49. I don’t know, but I would guess it’s discussed every year.

  50. That’s my guess. I can try to find out this weekend though.

  51. Guys- thats ok- it is what it will be and just have to be lived with no matter what the time.
It was a long trip back to Ny after Pitt game- the overall day was 6AM and we got back about 12:30 and those 12:00 games made that an easier night thats for sure.
    Just whining I guess….Thanks

  52. Nah, keep the games at 3:30. Living outside Philly, that makes for an easy trip down, a few hours for tailgate, and a decent time back home. Of course, if they would ever figure out how to get cars out of the parking lot (here’s a hint: Gold goes right on Farragut or Left on Taylor, Blue goes left and right, respectively, and each are one way from those points out to Rowe and West St.) it might save about an hour on departing.

  53. From Navysports.com press release today…

10 year Extenstion to CBS for Army-Navy classic….

In 2009, the annual Army-Navy classic will be broadcast on CBS Sports on Saturday, Dec. 12 (2:30 PM, ET). Each year during the new deal CBS Sports will present a special edition of its pregame show, COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY, dedicated to the game and will feature the traditional parade of the Brigade of Midshipmen and the Corps of Cadets onto the field.

The Army-Navy game will be played on the second Saturday in December each year. The schedule for the length of the agreement is as follows:

    December 12, 2009

    December 11, 2010

    December 10, 2011

    December 8, 2012

    December 14, 2013

    December 13, 2014

    December 12, 2015

    December 10, 2016

    December 9, 2017

    December 8, 2018

  54. Hey Birddog when you get a chance could you update the future skeds to reflect the A-N game changes?

  55. Since you know it’s not like you have a full-time job or a wife and kids to distract you…oh wait…

  56. heh… I don’t know what I’m going to do now that basketball season is starting. I might use my insane blogger cash to hire a staff.

  57. I found out recently that Navy has been 2-8 (or something rediculous like that) for homecoming games over the past decade. If that’s true, why is Navy scheduled to play Wake Forest next year for homecoming? The year after that is Duke and Houston, but I think after the loss to Duke this year I think we can all assume that those teams could surprise us and come out with a win. Not to mention Duke came out with a ton of points against us in 2007, making it seem like a bad choice to play before we take on ECU the next week.

  58. Scheduling a cupcake on homecoming isn’t a rule.

  59. Not necessarily a bad idea though. Give the guys a chance to win big at home and get hyped up, especially after a rough schedule of Maryland, Wake, Air Force, and ND leading up to Homecoming.

  60. Well we pretty much have the same mix of teams that we always do, save the brouhaha with Ohio State and the Maryland game. We could just declare a different week to be “homecoming,” I suppose, but I don’t see what difference it would make. Scheduling football games is VERY difficult as an independent, especially a good one. And it’s even harder to schedule in October and November when most teams are waist-deep in conference play and not looking for OOC matchups. Getting a perceived “easy” game at that point is a lot easier said than done.

  61. The ups and downs of being an independent. Oh well, guess Navy will just have to toughen up. Thanks for the feedback.

  62. Any new news about where they’ll be holding the next few Army/Navy games? I know some big venues like the Rose Bowl, Superdome, and Soldier Field were trying to reel it in.

  63. The bidding process is still underway. I hadn’t heard about any of those sites. I doubt it’ll stray far from Philadelphia.

  64. Hate to refer you to Scout.com, but heres the article I read about the future sites.

    http://army.scout.com/2/770758.html

  65. That’s just the guy’s personal wishlist, and a pretty ridiculous one at that. He is also apparently unaware that Army-Navy was played in the Rose Bowl before, in 1983.

Of the “exotic” sites, the one that put in the best bid the last time around was Seattle. The game was still awarded to Philadelphia, though. Location is a tough obstacle to overcome.

  66. Is Philly just the ideal choice because of proximity to both Academies? Or is the contest usually there just because Philly has hosted the game the most times and its a comfortable arrangement?

  67. Both. Philadelphia did a really good job on their last presentation of selling itself as the “home” of Army-Navy, with the idea that having a permanent home for the game adds value to the Army-Navy brand. Pasadena and the Rose Bowl, for example. I actually agree with this. Philly’s problem in the past was that they took the game for granted; Veterans’ Stadium fell into disrepair, cardiologist convention taking up all the hotel space that weekend, etc. That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore. I wouldn’t mind seeing Army-Navy move around once in a great while for special occasions, like if they wanted to go to Chicago in 2026 for the 100th anniversary of the original “game of the century,” for example. But for the most part I think the game and season ticket holders are better served by playing in Philadelphia every year.

  68. I agree. Having the game move around every so often might give people who have never seen the game the opportunity to get hooked on it, like a trip the Rose Bowl would do. The idea they had of sending it to New Orleans to bring some relief money to the city wouldn’t be so bad either, especially since it would be good PR for the Navy. I agree with you though, the Philly venue is still the best option. If not only because its the “home” of the game, but also because its the birthplace of the Marine Corps.

  69. I’m sure Mr “GotRocks” the AD will sell out to the highest bidder…has nothing to do with Philly , B’more, or the Meadowlands, it’s all about money to him….seems in recent years he’s been able to us some of NAAA’s money on “other” than Navy Sports events or endeavors…Women’s World Lax e.g….time to start looking into what’s going on outside the NMCS!!! Go Navy, let’s get some itegrity back into the system..it’s no all about winning!!!

  70. Uh, integrity? Attracting events to NMCMS like the Women’s Lacrosse World Cup shows a lack of integrity? That’s a new one.

And whoever bids the highest should probably get top consideration. I don’t see how that’s a bad thing.

  71. Great to see Ohio State on the schedule in 2009. Congrats to all involved in the Navy football program for your success. Every competitor (ranked on not) be warned!

  72. We heard that Navy is NOT playing Ohio State in 2009. Which is it?

  73. Well, considering what I’ve listed…

  74. We heard that Navy is NOT playing Ohio State in 2009. Which is it?

Who is “we” and where did you hear it from? The official tOSU website lists the game. It’s happening.

  75. Philadelphia Facing Heavy Competition For Army-Navy Game

    http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/colleges/20081202_Phila__works_to_keep_Army-Navy_game.html

  76. Why can’t Navy play Kentucky and not Western Ky? UK fans are crazy and loyal and there would be a packed house. If we can play with Vandy, we sure can play with UK.

  77. WHY DIDN’T NAVY JOIN THE MID AMERICAN CONFERENCE YEARS AGO?

  78. BECAUSE IT’S BETTER TO BE INDEPENDENT.

  79. just saw this column today while looking for schedule updates. it is definite that duke will play navy in 2010?

  80. In football scheduling, nothing is definite until kickoff.

  81. How accurate is the 2010 schedule? I’m mainly concerned with a conference that will be happening in Annapolis in October. Is the October 23rd game definitely on for them to play in NJ? How about the Oct. 2nd at Air Force? I need for this conference NOT to fall on either Navy football in town or either of the boat shows. Thanks.

  82. The 2010 schedule is what was printed in the media guide. They are always subject to change, although I’d say that Notre Dame and Air Force are probably about as locked-in as it gets.

  83. Ok. So Notre Dame and Air Force are both away games, correct?

  84. Technically Notre Dame is a home game, but for your purposes, yes, it won’t be in Annapolis. Air Force is also on the road next year.

  85. Mike – is there a return game for Indiana? Their athletic department is in the red, so I wouldn’t doubt it’s just a one game deal.

  86. I’m sure there is, but I haven’t seen it in writing anywhere yet.

  87. I live near St. Louis, and it’s nice to have one game each year that we can get to that’s not too far away. Attended Northern IL last Thanksgiving, drove to Columbus on Labor Day weekend this year, and we’re planning to travel to Western KY in 2011. Speaking of the Ohio St game, if you had bet me that we would have a 2-pt conversion attempt to tie the game in the 4th quarter, you would have cleaned me out. Beat Army!

  88. Birddog, do you see any chance of getting Army -Navy or Navy – ND in Jacksonville.

  89. Army-Navy, no. Jacksonville has explored the idea, as have many cities outside of Baltimore-Philadelphia-East Rutherford. Generally speaking, though, the cost of shipping the Brigade and Corps of Cadets is too much for most cities to bear. Navy-ND, on the other hand, could be very possible. The city is pressing hard for more college football games in the stadium to make up for the loss of the ACC championship game. 2014 could be a real possibility for the Navy-ND game to hit the road somewhere, since it’s likely that there will already be a home game in Baltimore (Ohio State). I’m sure Jacksonville will get stiff competition for that game, though.
